For years now the standard shape to learn to surf on has been the Minimal, until now our Weemal is out selling our other beginner surfboards so lets fins out why…
Lets first take a look at the two boards close up then we can compare the shapes..
First up is our very good Minimal Surfboard this has been designed over many years with help from local surf schools to give you the best standard surfboard to learn on, it’s stable, maneuverable and very easy to pick up surfing on. In other words it does it’s job very well especially if you are an older or larger surfer the round nose and fuller figure can help give you the extra volume.
Here we have the Weemal, this version only became available last year and already outsells our Minimal especially with younger smaller surfers. Let me start by saying these boards have the same rails and concave bottoms in fact the Weemal was taken directly from the other board as it was a tried and tested shape, now as you can see the main difference is the shape what i have done is take the volume from the nose and place it around the hip of the surfboard widening the the tail this gives it a lot more float in the rear and really helps with wave catching especially on more advanced waves, it also makes the board more responsive to turn allowing the learner to try much more advanced moves. So basically the new Weemal allows the surfer to take there surfing to a higher level than the standard beginner board this is why the younger surfer loves it because they quickly learn to progress and have a lot of fun doing it.
To sum up the two boards are great to learn on but the Weemal will take your surfing further towards an intermediate/advanced board, a 7ft6″ Minimal will give you 56ltrs of volume while a 7ft4″ Weemal will give you 54ltrs but the Weemal in the smaller sizes will catch just as many waves dues to the shape, you can also learn to Duck Dive the Weemal witch is a big plus and as a young surfer said to me one day it looks way more cool as well…
